Good Morning Hip Hop: Above The Clouds - Gang Starr ft. Inspectah Deck


Peace Morning all... Another Friday is upon us, and I had to show love to one of my Favorite Mcees and Producers of all times. Guru and DJ Premier of the Legendary Gang Starr... With the new album "One Of The Best Yet" out now. Bad Name video dropping today at 11am EST Video below when it hits. I wanted to reminisce on one of my all time favorite Gang Starr Tracks "Above The Clouds."

Above The Clouds Features Inspectah Deck of Wu-Tang Clan and is no doubt on of the best features ever in Gang Starr history. This track is one of Premier's most iconic tracks in my opinion of course. But I will bet it is in most people's top 10 Preemo Beats. Included the video below to give you Preemo's Insight of how that track came about.

Guru and Deck on this track together was a masterpiece. The two voices on one track was like a match made in heaven. With Preemo's melodic beat and fire verses from the two this track was a banger when it came out. Hip Hop never sounded so good together.



From the Moment of Truth Album released March 31, 1998, and debuted at #1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. It went on to sell over 500,000 copies and was certified Gold by the RIAA on May 7, 1998. With 20 bangers on this CD you have to check it out if you are not familiar with the Gang Starr legacy. This album produced a lot of hits for the group. Tracks like "You Know My Steez", "Royalty", "Moment Of Truth", "The Militia", and "Betrayal."

Moment of Truth is one of my favorite Gang Starr albums I still listen to til this day. Production and Rhymes are top notch. This track takes me back to a day when I was heavy in the streets just grinding for the music and trying to get our music out. We focused on albums like this to set the bar for what we were trying to create.

Gain Staging for FL Studio Users. Hello all my producer friends out there. I wanted to share this tip with you all called Gain Staging. I remember when I first started to learn to mix it was a pain and time-consuming. Who wants to sit for hours mixing a song, but I learned this was what I wanted to do to be good at it. So curious to know what gain staging is let me tell you, a gain stage refers to any point in a production where you can control the volume level of a device or track. Gain staging is the process of managing all of these volume levels within a project to achieve the cleanest mix possible. Who doesn't want a clean final mix right? Step 1 Adjust your levels if they're not already to default. You do this in the Mixer and the Channel Rack for each Track by Right-Clicking and choosing "Reset". Do it now or regret it later! This gives you a fresh start to leveling all tracks to -12db. I use -12 cause that works for me. Others use -18db wh
